Docks Heritage Weekend

The Docks Heritage Weekend is a celebration of the community, skills, and stories that have shaped Bristol’s harbour. It’s an opportunity to see how the past influences the present, with a fantastic lineup of activities for everyone.

Join us at Underfall Yard for the Docks Heritage Weekend on October 4th and 5th! This special event is your chance to connect with Bristol’s rich maritime history and celebrate the vibrant life of the city’s docks.

Throughout the weekend, you can witness demonstrations of traditional maritime skills, including the intricate art of rope-making and the historical craft of blacksmithing. Immerse yourself in the creative side of the docks with a live showcase of poetry inspired by Underfall Yard, and don’t miss our stunning sound and light installation, transforming the Sluice Room into a mesmerising artistic display. It is also another chance to see our Yard in Action with live displays of our Victorian-era machinery, and local boatbuilders Star Yachts opening their workshop to the public.

We have a host of guests to join us in exploring the legacy of the docks and the city’s maritime history; including traditional sail making demonstrations by Heritage Crafts, paddleboard whittling from All Aboard, shanty tunes from High and Dry Shanty Crew and even some lovely poetry inspired by the water from the award-winning poet Suzannah Evans.

The Docks Heritage Weekend is more than just an event; it’s a tribute to the hardworking individuals and the innovative spirit that built Bristol. Come and celebrate with us, learn about our heritage, and see why the docks are the beating heart of our city.
