We are delighted to announce that Underfall Yard and Alec French Architects have been awarded Bristol Civic Society’s 2017 Design Award.

Bristol Civic Society runs the prestigious Design Awards, which recognise developments in Bristol which make a positive contribution to the local environment through excellence of design.  The Civic Society has made awards for many years, celebrating good quality design – buildings, transport projects and improvements to the public realm.
There are three fundamental criteria: nominations must be made for projects completed during the preceding two years; located within the City of Bristol; and visible from a public place.

The Design Awards ceremony was held on 26 June 2017 at Arnolfini, hosted by Kevin McCloud.  The winners were:

  • Kingsmarsh House in Lawrence Hill by Kendall Kingscott for Bristol City Council
  • Lynwood House, Grade 2 residential conversion & new build, by Noma Architects for Sovereign Housing
  • Underfall Yard by Alec French Architects for Underfall Yard Trust
  • Wapping Wharf by Alec French Architects for Umberslade

In 2015 the Civic Society joined forces with the Architecture Centre and the Junior Chamber of Commerce to create a partnership for assessing award nominations. The awards are sponsored by Savills, chartered surveyors and development specialists – for which the Society is very grateful.
